Last Day in Taiyuan, Shanxi

Last Day in Taiyuan, Shanxi – Onward to Beijing

Outside of the evening’s exorcism, the next day was fairly low to do, Mary was a fair bit out of sorts throughout the day – very clingy and needy, crying, and really just wanted to be held –All Day Long – Every…Single...Minute. Watching a child grieve is heartbreaking to watch. As an adult you feel utterly helpless to comfort your child, and you can only imagine what must be going on in her little head and heart. Short version – grief sucks. I think the other hard part, as the parent (side note: we completely understand this is immensely harder for Mary Dan Dan) is trying to remain calm in the storm of emotions for Dan Dan, especially when you do not know how long this particular episode will last (minutes, hours, days, or even weeks).

Dan Dan did well for the morning for breakfast (have we mentioned she is a champion eater), but we did get to try the light switch at nap time again… It was eerie the way she reacted to that crib – even getting her inside the bars would set her off - On the bed again and silence. One of us contemplated a game to play with this reaction but was summarily vetoed by the powers that be… (In the crib, out of the crib, in the crib, out of the crib…) Me thinks my divorce would be the least of my worries… :)

On the other end of the spectrum, the plane ride that evening was completely uneventful from Taiyuan to Beijing – It was only about 50 minutes long, and I think we spent longer in the airports than on the plane. We were very happy to return to Beijing and meet up with some of our group travel companions. Most of us filtered in throughout the day… I think the last ones got in at midnight – Thankfully not us.

Until Tomorrow – or well, later anyway… :)

The camera did not see much action today, but I can pass along a successful grief coping mechanism... LIQ - OUR... :)
(to the MIC - KEY Mouse tune...)

  1. Good morning (our time)!!

Glad that it was a decent day - all things considered. On another blog I read was this quote today "The hardest thing about being an adoptive parent is the knowledge that there is nothing you can do to lessen the pain of adoption for your child." Yeah - you get it!

And for all their inability to make a decent cup of coffee - at least they were able to learn to make beer! Tsing Dao really is a good brew! I also managed to find a big bottle of Jack Daniel's - not that I like it - but having the 'trademark bottle' written in Chinese makes a nice addition to the "LIQ OUR" shelf! ;)

    hugs - aus and co.

  2. Love her, hug her and understand her emotions!!! This is where it gets exhausting because you will need to do the same for Sylvie as she adjusts! I agree that a nice cold drink really calms the nerves!

  4. Keep up the good work guys! It's so grueling to walk it all through, but it sounds like you are on the right path. And if it takes a cold one to calm the nerves, so be it. ;)

  5. My first one (My Datong sweetie) was the one who grieved a lot. It was easier that way as she was my helper when we traveled for #2. The change to Beijing was a good one for Chloe. Hope it is the same for Mary DanDan. We had a DanDan is our group 6 years ago. Beijing was a turning point for her as well.
Courage, you are 1/2 way there.
