We received an email last night from our Travel Facilitator that CCAA (China Center for Adoption affairs) has reviewed and approved our adoption dossier. we are very excited because we were told that it has been taking, on average, 90 days for this to be completed!
The next stage for paperwork will now have us completing "Hague Requirements" (as in the United Nations) for inter-country approval. This step is different for each province in Canada, but in BC it means we now need to go and get an updated criminal record check and prior contact sheet from the Ministry of Children and Family.
After we receive back these forms, we send them off to CCAA along with our "Care Nurturing Plan" for Sylive. When CCAA receives this information we will then be given travel approval to go to China! Yey!
Come follow us on our journey to create our family through adoption!

New Pictures of Sylvie!!!
We are soooooo excited today, we received some new pictures of Sylvie, her caregivers and fellow children from her Social Welfare Institute (SWI) today!
Joyanne was checking her email at the end of lunch, (she had previously been checking it 10 - 15 times a day since Saturday night) to see if there were any in the inbox. Joyanne quickly looked them over, after screaming in excitement with her staff and went back to class.
However, Shaw Webmail was NOT working ALL afternoon, so Cory wasn't able to see them and Joyanne couldn't check them out in greater detail. We went out for dinner tonight to help stay away from the computer, and when we got back Shaw Webmail was back up and running. Yay!
So we thought we had better quickly share these photos with our friends and family. We received 9 pictures, but felt we shouldn't post the pictures that have other children from the SWI in them, as we don't have permission from their adoptive parents/caregivers.
Here they are!!!!!
Here is a picture of her birthday cake we sent with the care package a couple of weeks ago. We are told the cake says "Happy Birthday Xia Xia". Xia is pronounced 'She-ah', and commonly children have their name doubled thus Xia Xia
There were 11 candles placed on the cake, with eleven symbolizing 'beautiful'. We couldn't agree more!
This is a picture of Sylvie being fed some of the birthday cake by her care giver.
We also have some pictures from her life at the Social Welfare Institute. You can see all her little toes in this picture!
Looks like she is getting ready to walk!
She just needs a little help!
We hope to receive more pictures from her daily life when we travel to pick her up when all our paperwork has been approved. We included a disposable camera in her care package and asked that they take pictures, which we would then develop later. Once again, the service we used if someone else is looking for a recommendation is http://www.ladybugsnlove.com/

First Birthday!
Sylvie's first birthday was on Saturday, March 7. Since Joyanne was in school on Saturday, Cory was in charge of picking out a birthday cake. Please note the candle, Cory was immensely proud finding a number "1" candle. We haven't heard if our care package has been received, but are hoping that since we sent a cake we might be lucky enough to receive pictures in the near future.
We also have been trying to keep busy getting organized for our (hopefully) summer trip. Joyanne is busy trying to figure out what clothes to take and other incidentals (bottles, formula, toys, diapers). Luckily we have packing lists others parents have sent us to help organize ourselves. Today we went out in search of a second suitcase and found on on sale at Sears. Joyanne wanted to buy a third one, but Cory thinks two big suitcases and carry-on's are enough to worry about.
Cory has been keeping busy researching cameras, as we want a new smaller, portable travel camera to take with us. He has also been looking into small appliance adapters for charging the mini laptop and camera while over in China.
Other than that, we have been keeping busy painting the kitchen and trying to finish up some jobs around the house. We are hoping to begin decorating the baby room during spring break.
